I have a feeling the MAX will be recertified shortly after bars and theaters reopen.

Using it for masks and test kits solves the problem with the original A380 Freighter proposal, since its relatively light weight cargo that can fill the volume of the plane, but stay within the weight capacity.

Why?

how is it “good news” that a plane which no one wants is getting slightly modified into a configuration that no one will want?
Machines are not inherently good. they have to serve a purpose. you can’t just say “this is the biggest/most complicated ( thing ) so it’s the best!”

It just keeps getting pushed further and further back, every time Boeing sets a tentative date, it ends up going back a few more months. You know, just like the whole ending the house arrest thing.

because it is a technical marvel that something so huge can fly.

Oh, Max is certifiable.
BTW, screw Boeing.

They might (stupidly) re-start production, but certifications are a long way off.

That’s the thing. I haven’t watched the video, but my first thought was that they are going to use it to carry cargo in the say that they are turning mostly empty airliners into combis to fill them up. There have been rumblings about a cargo A380 for years, but it’s always been a dead discussion because the plane was never built for heavy cargo and would cost too much to modify it.

Airbus planned for a cargo version from the start, and took 27 orders for an A380F between 2000-2005, but the whole program was going way over budget and falling behind schedule, and the passenger version was much closer to production, so they cancelled the freighter and put all their resources to the passenger plane.
27 orders was also nowhere near enough for it to be viable, of course. The issues were how to quickly and efficiently load and unload 2 decks, and also that the amount of cargo that could fill the interior would almost certainly exceed the MTOW in most operations, and most cargo operators don’t like the idea of buying a plane that has to fly around with a whole extra deck they really can’t use. There was some market for it, just too small of a niche to be worth filling.

That thing is so ugly. No sense of style with that huge forehead. It looks like it has Down’s syndrome. The only good angle is directly behind it, it has a beautiful curve in the wing down to the root at the fuselage.
